KOMPOSISI MEDIA TANAM TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL SELEDRI PADA HIDROPONIK SISTEM SUMBU

Abstract


Celery (Apium graveolens L.) is a leafy vegetable widely cultivated and has considerable potential to be developed using hydroponic systems. The wick hydroponic system utilizes a wick as a channel to deliver nutrient solutions to the plant roots, while the growing media play an important role in retaining water, nutrients, and oxygen for plant growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of various growing media compositions on the growth and yield of celery in a wick hydroponic system. The research was conducted in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan, from February 12 to May 11, 2024, using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five growing media treatments: A = rice husk charcoal, B = cocopeat, C = rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:3), D = rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:1), and E = rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (3:1). The observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, fresh weight, shoot weight, root weight, shoot–root ratio, and plant dry weight. The results showed that the use of cocopeat, rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:3), and rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:1), each at 400 g, produced the best results in terms of fresh weight and shoot weight of celery plants. In addition, the application of rice husk charcoal, cocopeat, rice husk charcoal: cocopeat (1:3), and rice husk charcoal: cocopeat (1:1) increased the number of leaves. Therefore, the combination of rice husk charcoal and cocopeat has the potential to support the growth and yield of celery in a wick hydroponic system.
