UJI VIABILITAS JAGUNG (Zea mays L.) VARIETAS NAKULA SADEWA 29 DAN JHANA 29 DENGAN UMUR SIMPAN BERBEDA

Abstract


Corn (Zea mays L.) production plays an important role in Indonesia’s industrial development. One key factor in increasing corn yield is the use of superior new varieties. This study aims to examine the effects of variety and storage duration on corn seed viability. Parameters observed include moisture content, germination rate, growth uniformity, growth speed, seedling dry weight, and primary root length. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications, totaling 18 experimental units: P1 (Nasa-29, 4 months), P2 (JH-29, 4 months), P3 (Nasa-29, 12 months), P4 (JH-29, 12 months), P5 (Nasa-29, 20 months), and P6 (JH-29, 20 months). Results showed no significant difference in moisture content between the varieties. JH-29 stored for 4 months (P2) had the highest germination rate and growth speed. Nasa-29 stored for 12 months (P3) had the highest growth uniformity, seedling dry weight, and primary root length, all significantly different from other treatments. Overall, Nasa-29 with 12 months of storage had the best viability compared to all other treatments.
